Spending Too Much Time Watching TV Can Have Bad Effects On Work – Find Out More

Integrating back into everyday life after avidly binging a handful of TV series can be tricky. It is all too easy to get out of the habit of working and slowly watch everyday life pass by. That is why it is important to recognize the possible repercussions of spending too much time staring at a television screen and understand the importance of a good work-life balance.

Eyesight

Excessive use of an electronic device of any sort can have a detrimental impact on the eyes. Eye strain, dry eyes and blurred vision are some direct results of straining the eyes while indulging in a show or movie. Eye strain can cause headaches, further aggravating the symptoms of already being glued to the TV too much.

Sleep Patterns

Watching TV can easily disrupt the natural circadian rhythm of the body, which in turn can negatively effect sleep patterns. The negative impact of watching too much can be particularly damaging for teenagers and adolescents. As the blue rays produced by televisions and smartphones can interfere with the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, this can make the process of falling asleep delayed and more difficult.

Social Life

Fitting into a social circle is an important part of finding a balance in life. The process of watching too much television can potentially disrupt social interaction and involvement which can further fuel an unhealthy addiction to the small screen.

Work

The longer time spent watching TV, the less affordable time will be available to dedicate to work. It is important to realize that assigned tasks and deadlines should be respected, and personal satisfaction should come after professional work is completed. Watching television can be great entertainment, but make sure to prioritize work or studies first!

Conclusion

The impact of watching too much television can range from simple physical effects on vision to deeper psychological and social effects. Taking advantage of a few hours of enjoyment can be great but always remember to take time away from it and commit to a healthy work-life balance.

Here is a few things we can do to make sure our need for rest and entertainment don’t overlap and co-exist in a healthy and balanced way:

  • Prioritize work and professional goals before indulging in television entertainment.
  • Take regular breaks when watching television to rest the eyes and refresh the mind.
  • Ensure that leisure time is balanced with a healthy time dedicated to productivity.
  • Make sure you are still active in ensuring that you have an active social life as well.
